Balanced Score Card Approach to Business Decision Making - Reliable Data is the Key

There have been many schemes considered for developing Artificial Intelligence computers that will be able to make decision better than even the most seasoned CEO, provided of course that the data input is reliable. If not well all bets are off, even if one is using the Balanced Score Card (BSC) approach to Business Decision Making.

Reliable data being the key, after all “garbage in - garbage out” still holds true. So, then the importance of the Digital Nervous System in an organization providing factual data to the decision mechanism (human using a BSC Schematic or Computer using AI software) is paramount.

A computer system with artificial intelligence can make decisions without emotion, which in many regards is good news. However, not everyone agrees with this. Now then, on the emotional issue realize that sometimes it seems that emotion is part of a decision. For instance when a decision maker or an AI computer is sizing up the competition, it must take emotion into consideration.

Why, well, because the other sides moves and motivations are driving by emotion, just like a human mob is when it comes to voting or a large contingency of consumers buy due to a brand name. So, there must be a component of emotion on the BSC chart in some places when dealing with human customers, human competition or even in negotiation involving humans. Emotion and the scale of human desires is known, (Maslow) and thus, it must be considered.

Further, in order to get maximum performance from a human, emotion is needed, as a consideration, because happy humans do better and produce more. Unhappy humans produce less and emotional ties has to do with “buy-in” and commitment too.

One can see where the BSC Model can be used in Human Resource endeavors for positive results, as long as it takes into consideration emotion, without making an emotional decision on the decision making side. Still, when a human hires another human, they get non-verbal feedback and that feedback helps them make a decision on who to hire. If the human doing the hiring, feels comfortable with the hiree, then there is a good chance that hiree will bond as an employee well with other humans, thus that helps develop organizational long-term capital and teamwork?

A Decision Making AI scheme, which disavows emotion, might be problematic and at minimum will take a little getting use too. Indeed, in the end, at least in the present period, it may be invalid and less accurate. Think on this.
