Inventory is the backbone for any smooth running business setup. With hundreds of employees, all working round the clock and software based activities, meaning hundreds of desks, monitors, computers, mouse, keyboards, earphones and phone lines everywhere. This could very well be the situation for any software company, resulting in the Administrator or the IT guys running all around to manage and maintain complete inventory records.

I remember, in one of my earlier companies, we used to have problems with the mouse every 2nd week; issues with the keyboards once every quarter. It so happened that we had to change our sitting 3 times in one quarter. Now, the IT team was responsible for all inventory setup and the guy who was leading them befriended us. That was the time it came up that managing all IT infrastructure inventory for his team was so daunting that at times they even worked on weekends to get the records in place.

Well, for us it was when a mouse was not working, we got a replacement within the next 30 minutes. For the managing team, it was maintaining records of the replacement, sending the hardware repaired and again maintaining records for all inventory moments.

With technology advancing to new heights, there is a solution to practically everything. Automation is the buzz word in the industry. Use Google and you will get hundreds of vendors that can help in coming out of such problems. The Software market is very flexible; there is a software solution to inventory control and management that can ease your workload and increase efficiency. It’s all about dollar value; what you actually spend in automation is much less than value of manpower working time involved. Simultaneously it reduces errors and records straight.
